TLDR;
Panders started with my pup, Panda. When I couldn't find a pet food I trusted, I decided to make my own using only human-grade ingredients—no fillers, no preservatives. What started as a passion project turned into a mission to create the best food for our furry friends. Every batch is handcrafted, simmered for 48 hours, and freeze-dried to lock in 97% of its nutrients, making it shelf-stable without any chemicals. Our beloved pets deserve the very best, and with Panders, that’s exactly what they get—pure, nutritious and delicious food, just the way nature meant it to be.
I came for the story:
Hi, I’m Amit, and here’s how our pet food journey began—a little story about love, paws, and the pursuit of the perfect meal!
It all started when I welcomed a tiny furball into my life, a puppy so special, she didn’t have a name for two whole weeks! I just couldn’t find the right one. Then it hit me—Panda. It wasn’t just her adorable black-and-white fur that made the name perfect; it just fit her big personality too (Panders is her nickname). From the moment Panda joined the family, I became obsessed with giving her the best of everything, especially when it came to her food.
As a first-time pup parent, I dove deep into research. I was shocked to see that many pet food brands, even those claiming "95% real meat" (what does that even mean?!), were loaded with ingredients I could barely pronounce. And don’t get me started on what they call "meat"—spoiler alert: it's not something I’d ever put on my plate. So why would I feed it to Panda?
That’s when I made a decision—if I wouldn’t eat it, Panda wouldn’t either. With the help of my vet and some seriously detailed pet-friendly meal plans, I rolled up my sleeves and started cooking. And let me tell you, when I cook, I go all in.
I began by sourcing only human-grade ingredients from the St. Lawrence Market, because nothing beats farm-to-bowl nutrition. The adventure kicks off with a 24-hour bone broth simmer—a rich, nutrient-packed base that Panda and I both sample (strictly for quality assurance, of course!). Once we give it our paw (and spoon) of approval, I add the meats, slowly simmering them for another 24 hours to lock in all the goodness.
Panda is an active participant in this process. Let’s just say she’s very thorough when it comes to taste-testing each element. Next, come the fruits and veggies, followed by a little cooling overnight, just to make sure it’s perfect. Even though I start with lean cuts, I always skim off the fat—because Panda deserves lean, nutritious meals, not a fatty mish-mash.
Now, here’s the thing: no preservatives, no fillers. Many commercial pet foods are full of these, and that’s not something I want for Panda—or for your pup. Even products marketed as “freeze-dried pet food” often sneak in preservatives. Don’t believe me? Next time you're in the store, check the labels. You’ll be surprised at what you find.
Our food is different. Thanks to the freeze-drying process, we naturally make it shelf-stable without any chemicals or fillers. Freeze-drying locks in 97% of the nutrients by freezing the food and then gently removing the moisture in a vacuum. It’s like turning dinner into a time capsule of health! Unlike traditional dehydrating, freeze-drying keeps the food looking and tasting just as good as the day it was made—no preservatives needed. After 35-40 hours in the freeze-dryer, the food is ready for its final journey—being packed into mylar bags with an oxygen absorber, so it stays fresh for 10+ years. Yep, Panda's meals could survive the apocalypse if necessary.
It’s a labor of love, and while the process is long, the joy Panda brings into my life makes every minute worth it. Our pets deserve the best, and that’s why I’m dedicated to crafting food that not only nourishes them but also shows them just how much we care.
